    Help!
Not sure if I really screwed up here.
I recently purchased 2 USHIO 175 watt 14K Metal Halide Bulbs. The code on the box says they are M137's I installed them in my brand new REEF OPTIX 2 reflector/mogul sockets and hooked them up to a couple of Magnetic ADVANCE brand ballasts. I purchased them from someone who used them for a reef tank as well. I fired the bulbs a total of 3 times. The 3rd time I left them on for about 5 hours. The 4th time I tried, they wouldn't turn on. I read more on the ballast and found some info on their website that says they are compatible with 175/150 watt M57/M107 bulbs.
Since I used bulbs that are M137, did I screw up the ballasts or the bulbs, or both? Again, neither bulb will fire. Anyone with some advanced electrical knowledge with some input would be nice!

    Thank you!

can you test the ballasts using an old bulb that you know works?

Don't have one. My first setup.
Could my mistake have ruined either or both?

You may have ruined the bulbs but most likely not the ballasts.

Is there anyone out there who actually HAS done this?
I don't want to discount the advice I've been given from others, I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this or seen what happens when you do do this.
I looked into this further... It seems as though the USHIO bulbs are mostly pulse start and the ballast I have does not require the use of an ignitor. I guess maybe that's why they have different ANSI codes. Also that's what happens when you don't match the right bulbs with the right ballast!:-/

The USHIOS went to a different starter a few yrs ago . You can get a The SUPCO SPP6 Super Boost hard start capacitor for the ballast 15.00 ea or so or simply go to another bulb type

They will fire up flicker for a little bit then blink off .. reset and do the same thing .. Or go to a different ballast..
