Looks great! I have an open-top too and I love it. I'm moving soon and I am planning on using less rock like you have it and put the rest in the sump.

    Thanks all!

Thanks. I wanted to go with a loose scape based on my buddies tank. He had a ton of fish in a 100g with no skimmer, very little rock and a tiny little fuge. His tank did really well despite not having most of the "standard equipment" for a reef tank. I think most of his success was lack of obstructions in the display which allowed his couple of powerheads to move a lot of water and keep stuff from settling on the bed/rocks. I grabbed a couple of pieces out of my 75g when I broke it down and that's just how they went together. There really aren't any dead spot in the tank that I can tell. I have both returns pointed towards the back cornes and the vortech takes care of the rest of the tank.

Thanks, I'm on day 10. I used all dry rock, that's why it's so white. I did have a float switch fail on me before anything was in there and it dumped a ton of kalkwasser in, so it shouldn't be long before the rock purples up. My calc has been at 500+ since then.

Word of caution, if you're only on day 10, your cycle most likely is not over yet. If you insist on stocking right away, do so very slowly, with the knowledge that a small spike in ammonia/nitrite could kill some of your livestock.

EDIT: not sure if you meant the tank is 10 days old, or 10 days since your cycle completed. Sorry.

Also, for the amount of livestock you have in the tank right now, you shouldn't be needing to dose kalk. Weekly waterchanges should be sufficient to keep your parameters up, until you start adding more hard corals. There's no point in keeping calc about 500, unless you want to risk it precipitating again.

Last, coralline development takes a while, but the best you can do for it is maintain calc (380-450), alk (8-12dKH), and mag (1350-1450). Coralline seems to really like mag...

I love the looks of your tank so far, and really hope to see it shine!

Thanks for the advice. Tank is only about 10 days old. I tried cycling with shrimp and squid, but it just wasn't enough to get the biopellets going. I did see a slight spike in Ammonia today (0.1) where it's been at 0 for the last week. Diatoms in full bloom, so it should almost be over. I pulled the KW reactor offline today. With the fan on, it was causing too much evap and jumping up PH higher than I liked. The amount of bioload in there is pretty light right now, plus I'm not a heavy feeder. Other than Yasha, it will be awhile before anything else goes in. I've used MB7 in the past to help the cycle get going and it does help speed everything up.

    Small update...

I was getting some waterfall noise from the overflow, so I decided to use a little sponge to help stop it. A couple of dabs of superglue holds it in place and can be pulled off with little effort. I plan on changing them when I do water changes.

I added this little guy to keep the clown and Yasha company.

    And a FTS...

The anodizing on the fixtues has worn off pretty bad, I'm going to take them and have the front bracket cut above the water line and use a little black silicone to coat it. That should prevent any other problems.

    So far so good.
