I am planning on buying a 36" 6-bulb system. What does it come with along the lines of hanging and what not. Some photos show 2 eye hooks on both ends. Do they come with these hooks? How far away from the ends of the fixture are the holes for these hooks or hanging unit holes?

Where is the cheapest place you can buy these? I found the unit from marinedepot.com for 280. I believe this is a good price.

    Thank you in advance.

You need to buy the brackets to stand it up off the edge of your tank or one of the stainless steel hanging kits or one of the lift kits. You can adjust how far away from the ends the cables are. Also, if you want a splash guard for the bulbs, that is sold separately as well.

They really do try to nickel and dime you as much as possible.

I will just buy some thin plexiglass from lowes and use that as a splash guard. Once I get the unit I will see if I can build a simple hanging fixture. Do you think it is possible to put circle hooks or eye hooks on the unit? Say by putting a nut on one end and sliding it into place? Or are they built so that only their parts will work?

One can easily build their own hanging kit but you'll have to take apart the casing to do it if using a nut washer and eyelet.

I used to be a Sunlight Supply dealer. Back then, there were no hooks that came with the unit. Mind you, that doesn't mean that they haven't changed things since then.

According to reefspecialy.com they now come w/ "V" hooks. "Black Tek Light T5 fluorescent lighting system complete with two built-in Triad T5 electronic ballasts, two power-cords and two switches allowing for dawn and dusk control, individual parabolic reflectors for each bulb made from German Tek 95% reflective aluminum and I-bolts with V-Hooks to suspend the unit over the tank. Lamps Sold Separately."

My tank is only 30" long, but when I move I will be upgrading to a larger tank and figure I should just go ahead and buy a fixture big enough for the upgrade whenever it happens. Therefore, I need to make sure I can hang this easily from a unit I will be building. The hanging unit will be bolted to the tank stand.

You can use Eye hooks that screw in. The fixtures are setup to accept either the single hanging kit or two point kit. There is a female threaded hole in the center of the fixture on either side of it.

I have the 48" 8 bulb fixture. I bought the mounting legs for mine, and i like it alot. I bought mine from Aquarium Supplies - Aquarium Supplies for your Tropical Fish, Saltwater Fish, Reef Aquarium, Marine Fish, Saltwater Aquarium. Got a great deal on it, and really good service. There was a small issue with the splash guard that I bought, and they replaced it no questions asked...just sent me a new one, without asking for the bad one back.

Also, they were very accomodating in the whole picking out the lightbulb process.

Thank you for the info. I think I am going to order the fixture and see what I have to work with. Worse case scenario i have an excuse to upgrade early. :D

This is easily my favorite T5 fixture. Yes, I understand that you're frustrated that it is pretty much sold Ala-Cart. However, you won't regret your purchase.

I don't think I will regret it. After all the research I have done this is the fixture I want. I am working on picking out my bulbs now. That will take up another week of my life. lol

Thank you again for all the help.
