A few years ago tek was all the rage. There were posts all day long about tek, but lately you don't hear much about them. I would want a little more space than sitting right on the egg crate. If for no other reason than to keep salt creep of the fixture.

I don't have tek though I have wave point so I don't know much specifics.

posted with tapatalk please ignore bad spelling and grammar

I have a Tek fixture and it gets very hot. I wouldn't place it directly on the egg crate. You can buy legs for it.

Most fixtures using T5'sHO(High Output) and having more then 4 bulbs Im guessing are going to put out heat. Hence most higher end fixtures having cooling fans built in.

I won my nova extreme on a coral farm tour. A ballast blew on it right after I got it home. (We werent sure if it was used or not since it didnt come with stock bulbs lol and was put together) and 40$ later its been running great for almost a year now. No issues with it.The fixture it self gets warm, but the two fans keep it pretty cool. Just make sure its not behind a closed room. IT will heat the room up like a sauna. cause the fans are pretty powerful lol.

you think i could get away with super glueing my r2's on the back of the fixture or it gets to hot?
