Okay, so i my lights went out on my yesterday and i was able to find a substitute until i could find new ones.
i am looking into buying a tek brand set up. the 4x54w T5 fixture would be great for my 55gal standard. However, in the future i think i will upgrade my 55 to a 75. Should i go with a 6x54w instead of the 4 bulb system???
I am doing softies and lps right now, but would like to do a mix of some sps and a clam in the future.
also, reefgeek.com offers my choice of bulbs. there are so many different brands and spectrums.
heres the link to the system i'm looking at http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5...t_Fixture_w!_Bulbs_(Black)_by_Sunlight_Supply
and here is the link for the bulbs i can choose from
    http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Fluorescent/Bulbs/54_Watt/

are six bulbs too many? should i stick with a 4x54 system from tek???
    could you please help me?
what brand and spectrum of bulb is best???
    thank you
    JP

You will be able to use the 4 bulb Tek just fine on a 75 for SPS and clams. Just use high quality bulbs. I have a 6 bulb T5 on my 75 and bleach many medium and low light corals.

I would suggest 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Aquablue Special and either ATI Purple Plus or UVL Super Actinic. That will give lots PAR. You could go with any standard actinic and not really hurt the PAR.

+1 on everything that 2in10 said!

Getting a 6 bulb TEK wouldn't be bad, but you will need to hang it as it will be just a bit too big for your 55g unless you have room in the front and back (nothing hang-on or mounted on the back). I had a 4-bulb TEK Elite for a bit and it did great for all my LPS, Clams, & softies. SPS will just need to be higher up in the tank.

    +1 as well...

On another note... if your fixture is dead, have you considered repairing it? could just be a bad ballast or something simple... you could upgrade the ballasts in the process, and end up with a better fixture for less $ than a new one...
