I am in search of a DIY Temp Controller. Anyone have any info for me on how to build one, or a link where I can find one. I want it to control 2 heaters, and some fans for cooling.

Here is my basic plan. In my sump I want to have 2 heaters. A couple of fans aimed at the water to help cool it off if it gets to hot. I want to put a Temp Controller to this so I can make sure that everything turns on when they need to turn on.

I normally keep my house at 71, and my tank is not near any outside walls. So keeping it cool should not be a problem. But I want the fans as an option.

Where should I position the thermometers? Should they both go in the skimmer section, or do I need to separate them in different compartments? Should the temp probe be in the same section or could I get by with putting it in the return pump section? Can I aim my fans at the skimmer section water to cool it down, or should they be above the DT?

Any and all help is appreciated.

You should be able to pick up an ATC from anywhere I would think, I got my atc300 off Ebay but I am sure sponsors on here sell them or the likes of fishstreet, they are so cheap I dont see the point of making a diy one unless you just really want to :)

I have always kept the probe in the display and due to the constraints in the sump I have a cheap clip-on fan also on the pelmet of the display that does the job perfectly but I know plenty of people that have fans in their sump

Get an STC-1000. It is cheap and has outputs for both heating and cooling.

+1 doesn't get much cheaper than that.
