I live in las Vegas it's been 107 the last few days ..
I have a fan blowing across the top of my tank
And my temps are 78- 79 never more and at 77 my 300w heater kicks on
Just buy a cheap clip on fan at cvs or walgreen and your good to go ;D

this works quite well and is how I keep my tank with no temp problems.

I live in chicago and its been in the 90s all week. No issues.

Good air movement is key also.

Hey that's cool, I play hockey too!

I bought two 6" clip on fans from walmart that are clipped on the back corners of my tank angled slightly down and across the top of the water... they look like this:

They were only like $12 each... I've been running them for well over a year and they work great.

I have them running on the light cycle, they are on the same timers, so when my actinics come on, so does one fan, when the daylight lights come on, both fans are running... It helps a LOT. Of course, you're going to have higher evaporation rates this way, so be sure to adjust your auto top-off accordingly...

The cool thing about them being two speed is that you can set to higher speeds in the summer and if you're like me and run them all the time, switch to a lower speed during the spring/fall/winter...

I have to disagree, you should keep it on incase it drops too low. Better to be safe then sorry.

i hope your problem is cured by now but also foster and smith sell fans that will mount to the sides of your tank for your issue..

Just my crusty 2 cents of help..

    Best of luck..

I have used the Walmart clip on fans for 15 years here in Phoenix and its amazing how well they work when pointed across the length of the water surface either in the display or the sump. 3-5 degrees is easy but be prepared for evaporation, it will go up a lot.

What ever changes you might make, make them in a slowly adjusted type manner. [I.E.] If your lights were set to come on at 9 am, wait for two days then set it to 10 am, wait two days then 11am & and so on... Do this til you get to the new time that you want them to come on.I lost 500.00 worth of corals because I switched the lighting on them too fast. I killed off most of the benefitial algae in the corals by drastically changing the time of photosynthesis too fast. Good Luck
