Yea I used big bags of ice in my DT and sump and managed to cool it down from 82 to 80 in about 20-30 minutes (40 g DT, ~20 g sump).

Hmm. I like to keep mine pretty cold and thats why i have a chiller. (Around 75-78) I would run a fan on the water and maybe a frozen water bottle. That should help it a ton!

"You" saw and others may even see that, however, I wouldn't assume that is "normal". In 10 years, who knows how many tanks and a half dozen or so different apartments and houses, I've never seen a tank go more than 2 or 3 degrees above ambient temperature without some sort of equipment malfunction. Keep in mind this is with MAG pumps, metal halides and many other "known" heat generating pieces of equipment etc...

Now perhaps it is just due to heat generated by equipment. However maybe it's not. Call me crazy, but seems Better to be safe and rule out equipment malfunction than to just assume it's "normal". I've seen a few too many tank crashes due to malfunctioning equipment, so my preference is that of caution, But that's just my .02...
