79-82 isnt bad, i wouldnt go over 82, external pumps wont put heat in the tank water, adjust your house temp to help the tank

79-82 is a pretty normal range. Not in the danger zone at the least. I wouldnt worry too much

Living in IL, I dont see how you can have a heat issue. Is your tank covered(glass top, closed canopy)? If so, do you have fans to help you? You would be surprised what a couple of 4" fans can do. Luna

I tend to keep the room with my tank in it at 68. I dont run a chiller but do have ac in the summer months and have a constant 68 here so I have to run a heater but it doesent seem to work to hard. I would try to keep a stable room temp and that should help you keep it stable. I have run my tank at 82 when I had fish with ick but run 76 otherwise so 82 wont be a proble but i wouldent go any higher then that.

do you have fans in the canopy? if not that would be a good idea, radio shack has them and there easy to wire, get the most cfm possible for a 4" fan, like the ones that go into a computer

i had 4 in my canopy, the heat needs to be directed away from the tank, it also allows for more air flow which would help your pH. my current tank is an open top

Depending on the lights and size of canopy, you need to have at least two fans. One pushing air inside the canopy and another fan pulling the air out of the canopy. If its a big canopy, you'll need two fans on either side.

I live in Miami where its always hot. I keep my house temp. at 71-72 and I need a heater. I dont understand how you have heat issues. Must be the closed canopy.
