I have a 55 gallon aquarium. 48inches long. I have a 6 bulb T-5 unit over it. maybe 4 inches above the water. In the summer the temp is 76 all day and night. I never gave it much thought but went yesterday and got a digital thermometer and it say's 78 at night and yesterday evening was when I set it in it read 85! If I raise my light's will that help with the temp problems? And another thing is the S.G. is 1.028. Is that to high or is it in the danger zone?

What r u using to test your SG (most hydrometers are inaccurate)? If it's a reef tank you want your SG around 1.025. As far as the temp, 85 high but I would double check with a different thermometer. If it's high, slowly lower it, uou could run a fan across the top of your tank (or across the top of the sump if you have one and it's open top), that will help lower teh temp and keep it down. What is the temp in the room where you have your tank and how long do you run your lights?
