Turn on your house AC, open a few windows, and put a small fan over your tank.

First, get the heater back up. That won't contribute to a heat problem (unless its malfunctioning of course), and having it low might cause huge temp swings, which could be more of a problem than a higher temp itself.
You can run a fan over the tank, even the $5 small ones at wal-mart would be plenty for the 10 gallon. Change your lighting period so the lights run in the evening when it's cooler. If it becomes an emergency, you could also float a frozen water bottle in the tank.

since we are talking about tank temps.. what is too hot for a tank? what would be your temp limit. and would it make a difference if it is a reef or fish only tank? just wanting some info since it seems to have come up a couple of times? thanks

That really depends on species (for both reef and fish only). Some take temps better than others. I actually like to keep mine a little cooler. I keep both my tanks at about 78. But really anything around 78-82 would be a good range. Above 82 you will start to get into trouble. Above 84 I would consider an emergency. But that's just me personally ;)

ok thanks.. i am in the 79-80 range. unfortunately my heater crapped out last nite. i dropped to 57. it got chilly here for a day or two. well probally cause i opened my windows and such.. anyways, had to steal my fw tank heater to warm the sw tank back up.. its a 100watt heater on a 55. seems to small but its doing the job. but i want to get a 300 watt heater so it wont have to work so hard :)
