Need a little advice regarding temperature now that it's getting into the summer months here in Buffalo and it's really warm in my apartment right now. Currently my thermometer says the water is close to 81. I have the heater in the sump turned down to 72 so I'm gonna assume it's the room temperature that is causing this. I have as many windows and doors open as I can and it's just humid out with a storm rolling in. I could probably use a new thermometer to be honest and on the safe but assuming my current thermometer is accurate, what is the best way of keeping my temp between 76-78?

81 is not a major issue IME - its when the tank gets to 84 or 85 that you could see some corals wilting due to the heat

aiming some small fans across the water surface to help faciliate evaporation may be adequate to drop the temp below 80

I would aim a small clip on fan so it blows across the water surface. Even when the humidity is up it will still lower the temp 5-7 degrees in my experience. If you do though you may want to bring the thermometer back up to maybe 76 so the fan does not cool things off too much. You will probably find you need a small plug in appliance timer on the fan so it only runs so many hours a day and does not overcool and cause the evaporation to become a pain.

+ several on the advice offered here. for me, at 84, I am chunking ice bricks into the sump. anythign below that and I am happy. my old 75 used to fluctuate up to 83 in teh day and 79 at night. the slow swing is not as harmful as the rapid changes.

Just got home from work today and my thermometer says it's 84 but the water doesn't feel that warm so I'm wondering if a new thermometer is necessary. I've had a small desk fan blowing on it while I was at work from my desk but my elegance coral looks the best since I've gotten it (having trouble find low flow...)
