Lfs gave me the 5-1 teat strips like they use at their store:eek: which I thought that was all I needed. Would like to know if anyone has advise on a better test kit, one that is more complete .maybe brand name?

take them back and get your money back buy salifert, seachem or hagen......Don't buy cheap testers, they aren't as accurate. strips might be good for fresh(not even) but definitely not for salt water...

Elos is a great kit, use Salifert but as they run out I have been replacing them with Elos.

Those test stripes are garbage, I use API and Salifert.

    Hey thanks,
I'll have to try and find these on line somewhere , and really start learning how to test things right. I've got a long way to go!!

API are affordable and reliable, with Elos offering a bit more precision.

Salifert has had some major issues, but they seem to be back on track. make sure you get a new kit, their alk's are coming with a reference solution to check the kit's accuracy.

Hagen are very poor in terms of accuracy, and some of Seachem's kits are questionable when compared to others (alk).

    HTH.

Elos and Salifert for me, after talkin to lots of people. Elos is well worth the money, they are #1 on the list if available.

I have gotten along fine for years using Saltwater Master Liquid Test Kit.

    $17.99 at DFS

May not be "best" but works well and is affordable.

I supplement it with a Ca, Cu and PO4 test kits from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals which I also get from DFS.

    What I use...:-/
