So you picked it up did ya....

Personally I have sworn off API test kits for Salt Water. I have been doing extensive testing and found them to be very inaccurate.

Red Sea, Elios, Sailfert are among the best.

You will need, Amonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, PH, Alk, And some Salinity tester to start for sure. Once you get started, Magnesium, Calcium and probably a host of others.

    All found at

    Good Luck.

Well hello my fellow floridian. I use API Saltwater master test and the Reef master kit and Salifert kits.

Indeed. I am slowly converting some tests over.
However I just noticed today that the 10ML from the syringe does not equal the 10ml in the Vial.... USE THE SYRINGE..

I would have to disagree with that statement. I've used both Rea Sea and API and I think that RS is inferior to API. Now as for Salifert, yes they are one of the best. I cant comment on Elios b/c I havent used it yet, but have heard great reviews. Just my 2 cents. Luna

    LOL,
So what I was doing was testing the same water with three different kits then testing again with the same base water. What I found was the API would always read the same regaurdless of the water. The other kits read 0 when should be and a small change when from the tank. The API was reading N2 and N3 from my R/O water. In addition to the API P4 test.

So again, the API tests have been showing hgher amounts with my R/O and the same in the tank. Leading me to believe I had issues.

With the Red Sea and Elos, I read 0 at the R/o and slightly elevated at the tank. A bit more believable.

Basically calibrating the test kits with a known good base.
I'm sure if I bought 2 other test kits I would get different results, but I am happy with 2 of 3 showing 0 at the R/O and .0 something in the tank.
