There is a lot of test kits out there. Some more pricey than others but all seem to have the same tests in their kits. I've heard that some companies are "off" on their results. I want to get a good kit but don't know which one to choose. What test kits do you all have? What do you recommend?

I have always used Aquatic pharmecuticals for my SW and my FW. I think they give pretty good readings and pretty easy to use!

I like two companies...Salifert are great test kits and i also use Elos. Each have their stong points and weak points. My eyes are not so great and along with many other men color blindness is very common. I have a difficult time seeing the color change with the salifert magnesium test kit and prefer the Elos magnesium kit for that reason. However, Elos magnesium kit has less attenuation than the Salifert kit. Since i have some trouble with seeing colors i like the Elos kits and the Salifert kits because for the most part (with the exception of the magnesium kit...for me at least) they are both easy to read because you dont have to match a color to a gradient. Salifert uses a syringe for some of thier kits...when the color in the vial changes you read how much reagent is left in the syringe and match that number to a table. This way you dont have to match the color in a vial to a color card. Elos is very good because the color changes are very dramatic and makes it very easy for me to see. Not to mention these kits are always relatively the same when comparing them to the same water sample.

API test kits for everything except Magnesium (Red Sea). I've never had any problems with any of them.

I have always used API personally but wanted to make sure that they were trust worthy since it's time I bought a new kit. Any reason the Mag kit is a different company option for some of you?

I don't think API makes a Magnesium test kit.
