    Hi

just thought i would give this advise for anyone who is a bit forgetful

2 days ago i was cleaning my 55G fish tank, as i don't have a sump all my equipment is in the main tank (Im soon to make a new stand that will allow me to have a sump ;D). I had unpluged the 300W heater so i could clean off any algea that might have built up on it but FORGOT to plug it back in. Since then the windows have been open all day and night (as i like a cold room plus with all the equitment in here it will heat the room up and ill have a overheating problem if i dont have em open), the room has been around 20 degrease at highest and as low as 4 degrease at night. If i hadn't looked at the temperature just now (sitting at 24.1 :( when i tend to have it at about 26-28 ) i dunno how long it would have run on the 25W heater, out of an older fish tank. Thing is it must have been doing a good job as my tempreature gauge has an alarm on it if it goes over 29 or below 23, and it hasnt goon of yet but if i didnt have a backup (like i didnt for months) i dunno what might of happened.

So let this be a lesson for all, spend the little bit more and get a backup heater if you live in a cold climate it may cost a little bit more but it will save the world of hurt if your main one goes wrong or you forget to plug it in

    cheers

    Mike

So what you you're telling us is that you like to sleep in a meat locker? Good point on the back up heater, although it sounds like you will need more then a 25w backup with those temps in your room.

what can i say i like a cold room ;D at least i don't need a fridge to keep me drinks cold lol when im running all my stuff like the TV sky sound system lights you'd be surprised at the moment its about 20 degrease where outside its about 2 if i didn't have the windows open it tends to sit at around 30+ and i don't have a chiller (cant afford one) so its beneficial for the tank plus me to have a cooler room but yea im prob gunna look into getting something like another 300w and have it set slightly lower after this mistake
