I have been a member for a while now, and have read this forum years before joining. I finally decided to join when I upgrade from my 90 softy to a full mixed reef 180. I just finished my 2 year long build tonight by hard plumbing my new Eheim in and wanted to thank all the members and guest who contributed to the multitude of threads over the years which helped me achieve my goals for this build.

I have shared, hopefully as you all have, with the many success stories as well as some dis-appointments. I wanted to share some great advice I found here which I used throughout my build and maybe you can incorporate into you system. (I wish I could thank each member whose thread I used, but you should know who you are.)

So what I am talking about?

To start I used several others threads to help my frame my 2x4 stand. Plumbing the tank and also tuning the Durso overflow to reduce noise was a great help. Setting up my sump and using the airstone to aerate the Cheato has been a great success. After reading the AI Hydra thread I moved up from the Sols to the Hydra and could be happier. Setting up a bio-pellet reactor and plumbing it into my skimmer has really help with water chemistry. I also set up my refuge with reverse photo period I found here to help avoid nightly PH drops. And finally setting up a a tunze ATO to pump kalk has greatly stabilized my Alk and calcium.

I am sure I have done more things on my build I found here in 3reef, but those came to mind quickly.

I am interested in what was your greatest take away from all the great advice you have come across here that helped you achieve a successful tank?

Here's a poor iPhone pix of my finished product. And a special thanks to all the moderators

great tank! One of the first problems I came to 3reef with was how to reduce my nitrates and everyone was very, very helpful! I got tons of great advice and used it all. I'm happy to report that my nitrates run about 10 atm. I know to some that is high, but for me - that is success! The second very helpful thing I learned about here was the benefits of running a sump on a reef. I was very nervous about it and several members were extremely patient and helped me understand the working of a sump and were never condescending toward me in explaining. I now run a sump and as everyone said, I love it!

So happy you are with us slassco!
