I have a 10 gallon tank going right now but I decided on a very modest upgrade to a 20 long.

I bought the 20 long at the Petco 1$/gallon enabler sale. I plan on using the existing 10 gallon as a refugium.

I do not want to commit to drilling the tank so this is my plan:

eshopps nano overflow - already on its way
Coralife super skimmer 65 - about to order
Rio plus 1100 return pump - about to order
Odyssea T5HO 24" 4 bulb system - about to order
    wavepoint bulbs (2 x 12000K and 2 x actinics) - about to order

    Question:
It is a simple set-up but since this is my first attempt at an overflow and fuge, I wanted to make sure it was ok before I spent the cash. Will the coralife skimmer be ok in the 10 gallon sump and will the Rio pump be an ok match with the eshopps overflow?

I think you would be better off getting a different skimmer. Also, what is the drain rate of the overflow andgph of return?

    Rio Plus 1100 - (300 GPH - Max Head 6 Ft)
eshopps nano overflow Max Flow 200 gph

This is what I could find on the two products

As long as the overflow drainage rate is higher than the return pump rate at head then you will be OK. You will need to have at least 4 ft of head to be safe.

I would think that the pump would lose enough flow rate at head for them to be able to use the eshopps nano overflow.

I guess it all depends on how much head is there between the pump and where you have it returning to your DT?

I looked at the head chart for the pump. 180gph at 4 foot head.

Sounds good, on top of that there will be elbows so that will slow a bit more. Sounds fine. That skimmer will hold 1 or 2 gallons, so I would get something smaller.

Hey, thanks for all the help!

I have read that the eshopps nano actually has a much greater capacity than the listed 200 GPH and that it can handle up to 300 gph. So I figured with the rio at ~ 200 GPH at a 4 foot head I should be ok. I plan on having between 3-4 feet of head. Also, if i attach a ball valve on the output I should be able to dial it down.

As for the skimmer, I have read good and bad reviews on it so I was willing to take the plunge based on the price. The Hydor skimmer looks pretty good too but I wanted to get something rated quite a bit higher than the volume of my set-up.

I do have an old Remora skimmer that I got a long time ago, it is a remora aqua c? I have never used it as it was an add on with a tank I got off of cragislist. This is likely too big for the 10 gallon sump as well but it wouldn't cost me anything...Do you guys think this would be ok?

I am curious to how you like the eshopps overflow once you start using it. I didn't want to drill my tank either. If you don't mind posting some reviews of it, I would appreciate it.
