This is where I am setting the tank up.

I am renting the house so I couldn't drill anything, luckily this area was all predrilled for an entertainment system.

It is a pretty shoddy job so I think I will be able to improve on the drilling without getting into trouble from the landlord.

This is where the 10 gallon is going.

Here is the room, I have the 10 gallon on the other side, but it is not drilled at all, so I that is why i am transferring everything to the other side. And here is my son, putting on his best batman expression. The room is a disaster but that is what 4 year old twins will do!

    And his twin sister, batgirl.

I just got back from a frustrating trip to Lowes... I need help.

I wasn't able to get anything I wanted, but mostly due to my own ignorance. I was unable to find a fitting to work with the bulkhead, and I am wondering if I have things right in my mind.

Here is a pic of the bulk-head, and how I assumed it should be arranged.

I thought I could just get a female threaded attachment with a 3/4" barb fitting. BUT, the threaded part on the bulkhead has ~1/8" spacing before the threads actually start, so I couldn't get it to thread on any fittings.

Then I thought I had it wrong and it is actually supposed to go this way...

And then I could slip a hose over the pvc...but this didn't seem right because i would need a hose with 1" ID...which just seems way to big.

Any help on how to arrange this would be great, as I really want to get this set-up tomorrow. Keep in mind that I want to stick with flexible tubing because i would need way to many elbows to make it work.

    EDIT:

OK so looking at a few pics online I see that I was right in my original assumption

I still don't know what type of fitting I need to be able to attach tubing...

ok well I figured it out haha.

I thought I could use the outer threads to screw something in...guess not. So i got some pvc to attach to the inside slip and then a pvc to barb fitting attachment for the hose.

    SO I get to set-up now...woo hoo!!

Well my plans for using the built in cabinets failed miserably, since the holes were not drilled with a fish tank and sump in mind, they required a lot of elbows to connect the overflow with the sump. The tubing kept kinking on me, I tried to make it out of PVC pipe, but there were 4 elbows and i couldn't get rid of the constant flushing sound.

So I scraped that idea, and I am going to try to find a stand that i can use. I couldn't deal with the total failure so I set the tank up temporarily on a table in the basement. I am just running freshwater in it at the moment. I will probably drain it until I get a stand.

    Here are some pics:

So I switched out the stock bulbs that came with the Odyssea fixture with some sunwave bulbs [2 X 12000K and 2 x actinics (460 nm)]. Both pics were taken with the exact same camera settings, you can see the difference between the bulbs.

AND i got my rocks from Reefcleaners.org today! Woohoo! They look really nice, exactly what i wanted. John was great he gave me exactly what I asked for. Nice mix of sizes and shapes and the rock is very porous.

Lots of pieces to choose from for a killer 'scape. I will probably be posting pics of different arrangements and asking for opinions.

Well I hated having the tank where it was so I decided to make it fit in my initial location.

I had to cut a bit to increase the size of the hole, but I actually ended up making it look cleaner than how it was before.

The tank is doing pretty well, it took awhile for the coral to bounce back from the upgrade. It took longer than I thought actually. I have some algae problems but nothing too serious.

Here are some FTS with different white balance, I am having trouble with my camera settings, trying to get a realistic representation of how the colors actually look.

Thanks! I am happy with all the extra space, and I am sure the clowns are digging it as well.

The tank is clean until you get to the sump haha
