Happy birthday, you have a wonderful, loving family. And your LFS stinks! Mandarins are kind of my dream fish. Still scared to get it for the same reason. Congrats tho, keep us updated! (and pics? LOL)

Thanks guys! Yeah I am pretty pissed at the LFS, I go in there all the time and they don't feed me any BS, so I was pretty annoyed to find out that they took advantage of my wife like that. I realize the onus is on the buyer to make sure that they know how to care for the fish, but the guy should not have sold her the mandarin in good conscious knowing that she knew nothing of its special needs. Anyways, they are closed for thanksgiving but I am going to go in there next week and find out if it has been trained at all.

The Mandarin is doing good, unfortunately he has chosen his home base at the back corner so it is hard to see him at the moment. He has been making regular excursions out of his comfort zone to hunt for bugs and he is venturing out further and further.

I will get some pics tonight. BTW my kids named him froggy-face, lol.

Well i just ordered 2000 pods from reefs2go for 30 bucks with free shipping. Good timing on the promo lol.

methinks froggy-face will be happy for awhile. I plan on dumping most in the main tank and the fuge and then seeing if I can start a colony in a rubbermaid tub with the rest.

bahhhhh, I can't get a picture of the little bugger. He comes out into the open but as soon as I start trying to get him in focus he swims to his hiding spot.

I just got back from the store getting some last minute things for turkey day tomorrow, I also bought some vodka for carbon dosing...and I bought some tonic and a lime...I love this hobby. I use glutaraldehyde in my FW tank for organic carbon, I like this method alot better :)

I think I will do one for the tank and one for me ;D

Happy thanksgiving! I am about to start prepping our 18 pound turkey...mmmmm.

So I finally got some pics of froggy-face this morning, not the best, but atleast he stuck around long enough for me to get a pic. I also included a few other pics of some corals that i thought were nice. This is pretty much as good as it is gonna get with my current camera...how I wish I had a dslr :(

    ^ thanks!

The little guy is starting to get a lot more comfortable now, he is hanging out around the front of the tank alot more. Still having a hard time getting a good pic though.

Beautiful fish and corals. The fish looks quite healthy so If you can get a good pod population going it should do well. Good luck. Too bad the LFS didn't give out all the info needed but also not surprising. Sounds like you need to educate your wife some since she has taken an interest.

Thanks John :) I am going to put a moratorium on any and all tank additions for now. Just gonna sit and watch it grow.

Yeah he seems to be doing quite well so far. I should be getting the bag o' pods early next week so I think he will be fine.

I have read that you can sustain pods in the display tank by having a thriving colony in the fuge, but will I have to manually move them?
If I get a large population in the fuge, will the small ones be pumped into the display tank unharmed?

Yeah, I think she has learned the most valuable lesson...don't buy anything without researching it first and understanding all of its requirements.
