    more ideas

so here are 2 pictures of what im thinking of doing. on the left the ideal over flow box story, the siphon tube would be what holds the two boxes together on the tank (siliconed or better melted together). the one on the right is the idea i initially had and am relatively bothered that this siphon system according to some wont work.

more tips and ideas are most welcome

Yeah, definitely go for the overflow box. I originally had a plan with a siphon, and once the power goes out, the siphon WILL loose suction, and stop dropping water down to the sump. That's the problem, once the power comes back on, you're probably not there to re-start it and the DT overflows.

On the other hand, the OF-box never looses it's prime, once the power comes back on, the flow continues. Good luck, they sell some boxes that have only 3 inches space behind the tank.

tight enough to still make a difference for my water quality or not worth the trouble?

I think larger would be better it would give you a bigger Refugium as well as giving more room for the equipment, it also gives you more drain back space for the water.

Drilling really isnt that tough i drilled my first tank and it was a running reef tank took about 20mins to cut 4 holes.

well....here is my sump..... now we shall see if it will pass the test of time!!!!

hey all so here are some pics of my new set up. the water is not clear because i added some more sand to the bed. anyway looks a lot smoother without that ugly black box in the back and was also able to spread out my rocks a little more.

the sump is in a draw just under the tank. i used a waterproof silicone paste, but yea salt water is evil.

anyway let me know what you think. cheers
