    I know you're already off of it but the problem I see with a siphon is that the return pump would have to be perfectly matched to the flow of the siphon. If the siphon flows faster you'll overflow your sump and if it flows slower you'll drain your sump and run the pump dry. With a true overflow system the only controlling factor is the return pump. The overflow only takes in what the pump is pushing back to the DT.

    Also, to posters saying to go ahead and drill, the OP has the tank up and running already so that's why he can't drill.

    yea that was a problem that i got round by adding a tap at the end of the return tube, works in balance now, its not a very strong stream of water but it seems to work. what alternatives would i have?
