    Hi Matt,
When you received your pls100 did the volute cover have play in it? Got mine today and took off the pump to inspect it when I noticed the volute had some play even when locked into position. I'm also concerned about the size of the holes in the bubble plate being so small they would clog fairly quickly. I've neverseen holes on a bubble plate so small. Wondering if you have had any issues with that as well?

    Thanks in advance
    Tivo

Tivo I recall a little play in the volute. Not enough to concern me. Seems ok in operation. The holes in the bubble plate are small. I wipe them when I remove the tube for cleaning. I've had a chaeto strand or two in there but they have never been clogged too bad.

For general questions, please post on my review thread so we can keep this one on the belt mod:

    Thanks Matt,

    apologies for going off track!

I still need to test mine in my tote but want to pick up a belt before I start anything. I was thinking today at work that I may have an assortment of silicone o-rings in my garage that I may try out. Some of them are big and thin so I was thinking if I could size one up to the i.d. of the well that the body slides into, I could just slip it down in there. I figure if the collar of the base tube is resting on an o-ring in the well it may hold it snug enough to keep it from moving out of adjustment. I'll see what I've got and report back.

Ok there is always Teflon tape on the inside tube too. Cad Lights recommends this now. I mentioned that in my 'success' thread that followed this one in case you missed it.

I had Teflon tape in mind but figure it would bunch up when the body slides in.

    Thanks

Got the skimmer last week and installed it over the weekend. Instead of using the belt, I opted for just running several wraps of teflon pipe tape around the male sleeve at the base of the body and it holds snug. Ran it wide open for two days then seeded it with some skimmate from my MF121. It went berzerk for about an hour then settled down and now is skimming nicely.

4 days now and not a single slip in water level using the teflon tape

I'll post some nog shots soon. I've got a nice water fall of foam over the inner neck and about an inch of coffee colored skimmate.

Thanks for all the tips Matt!

    Happy Reefing

    Tivo

5 days of skimming with no fluctuations while using the teflon tape

not bad at all and it's not even completely broken in
