They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

    Lest we forget

Tonight while at work I was watching the History channel. This is in my top 3 picks of channels to watch anyway so that really isn't that important. Anyhow the show that was on at 9:00 p.m. was the story of the bombs that ended WWII. At said time was the coverage was of the one dropped on Nagasaki. The one that convinced Japan that we weren't messing around and forced the unconditional surrenender.
A man was buying some bottled water while the footage of the explosion (taken from 300000 ft.) was being replayed. He said "pretty awesome" I replied "yes it is" and he looked me in the eye and said "you are an ignorant *******" and walked off.
I was dumbfounded at first but then I began to think of all this country has been through. Just a couple months before that bomb was dropped our boys were ordered to move away from Berlin, the goal that kept most of them going, to attack the remaining German forces on the fringes. I thought of my boss who had fought in Korea.
I thought of my uncle who was at the battle of Midway. Tony Piver had 5 US Military ships sunk under him in less than 24 hours and still continued to do his duty.
I thought of my uncle John, a river rat in the US Navy, 2 tours of duty in the Mekong Delta of Viet Nam.
My uncle Chris who was a Naval aviator. He flew 128 sorties over the jungles of Viet Nam and Cambodia.
I thought of my uncle Orville who I never knew because he committed suicide after coming home from Viet Nam. His note said he couldn't understand how he lived when his best friends died.
Most of all I thought of my 19 year old cousin Chance. He gave his life to protect what we all take for granted. The rage he felt over the 9/11 attacks still inspires me today.
    I'm sorry for the rant...
I couldn't serve for reasons to deep to discuss here but beat myself up for letting the situation come to what it did.
Today is your day and thank you for all you have done, thank you for what you are doing to let me live my life as I expect it should be lived!
