You live in Bozeman right? The LFS here in Billings had live rock COVERED in cabage, colt, mushroom coral and coraline algae for 4 bucks a lb. Just another thought

Yup Bozeman here, I saw the pic in your tank. Looking good and thanks for your input.... But I am really anxious about having any more pests and whatnot added to my system via LFS live rocks (like aiptasia, majano, etc). Of all my live rocks only one is from the LFS and the only reason is cause I HAD to seed my tank.

If they're dry, can't you just add them straight to the tank as there wont be any die off so no mini cycle?

As a side note, I love hitchikers! they add so much diversity to the tank. Granted I dont have enough livestock to worry about losing much to pest so I can see your point, but I feel you are missing out on some great things by avoiding LR.

^ and one of the most important decision making factors: price. I dont mind taking it slow. When I added dead rocks to my old 29, it was ugly. Diatom everywhere it was way more than mini cycle. I just want to avoid any shock as much as possible.

It's not really a fight with diatoms as they will typically die off on their own.

The dry rocks from Reefcleaner are on the way! As always the higher standard of customer service is much appreciated!

The instruction says I can just put the rocks in the tank after quick rinse. I guess I'll do that?

I wouldnt do that. Put them in a rubbermaid or buckets with some new saltwater and some good flow for about 2 weeks.

^ All right just as the initial plan, I'll cure them first. Got a couple of 12 gallon rubbermaids, so I'll fill up with saltwater and the rocks in it. Thanks dowtish!
