The best cleaning method for used tanks

    heart stopped. thats a lot of tanks. i think the vinegar method is better myself. sounds safer anyways.

    looks like you might be making a trip to sams or costco to buy a few 5 gallon jugs.. wow.. I dont know what I would do personally.. whats your plan for these tanks?

    Some will be fish only and some will be reef...

    This is my problem...I dont know how much vinegar to get

    time to call costco and order a pallet of vinager

    at a 10 to 1 ratio your looking at 170 gallons

    HMMM... so how effective would it be if we did 1 system at a time (375 gal), then used that same water to do the next, etc. 6x total. I'm assuming that the effectivness would decrease with each system???

    thats what i was going to suggest.recycle the water/vinegar. add another gallon after each 370 g

    thats a good question, I would assume your correct, but I have no way to test that parameter :p

    Do you really think those tanks need cleaning? From the looks of them when I saw them they were pretty spotless. Any algae should be dead from when they were dry or from having FW in them for so long.

    Your one system at a time idea is a good one though.

    i was going to say recycle as well. its going to be nasty, but will still do the trick if you add some fresh vinegar now and then

    Straight bleach will clean the best. Make sure you get up under the rim of tank as that is a place most people forget to clean. Just rinse the tank good and set in sunlight for a bit and all the bleach residue will be gone. Will disinfect better then vinegar.
