Just stumbled on this good introduction to reef wrasses and thought I'd share:

With over 600 species, the family Labridae is the third largest family represented on coral reefs. The wrasses are some of the most brightly colored fishes in the sea, with certain species exhibiting almost garish chromatic attire. The family is very diverse, with members that vary greatly in size (from a couple inches to 7 feet in length), food habits, and life styles. It should not be surprising that these fishes are very popular with aquarists. However, when it comes to keeping them in a reef aquarium, they also vary in their suitability. In this article, we will look at four genera of wrasses that I believe are best-suited for the reef tank.

I posted this to the Six Line Wrasse, fish of the month 2005, oops.

I think if you add a Six Line you should add two at the same time. That is what we did and they immediately teamed and stayed together. They started spawning within a few weeks and continue to do so almost daily Pregnant Six Line Wrasse[/URL]] We have added all our fish in pairs and that has worked very well.

We have recently had an outbreak of green hair algae. To help with this we added a pair of Sailfin Tangs. Immediate acceptance. The Wrasse basically ignored them and spawned three hours later. They are now following the Tangs around, picking at algae on the rocks.

We like the word "soar" to describe how cool the Six Line move through the tank, rocks and currents. The color, eye lines, lip stick and flaring blue fins give this fish huge character.

    Absolutely love this fish.

Matt, I added the melanurus wrasse about a month ago. He seems to be a model citizen and absolutely stunning. They are very famous for eating on pest specieas such as flat worms and nudis

They are both about three inches, young and in an 85 gallon. If you go to the "pregnant six line wrasse" thread I posted a picture.
