    Hi everyone,

My partner and I have gain masses amount of knowledge from this forum, but this time I can't piece together enough information to figure out what happened to our 3" blue cheek goby.

We hadn’t seen him for 48 hours, which was odd because he was a lively chap.
so this morning I slipped on my marigolds and checked under every rock in the tank (270 litre I’m guessing).
unfortunately there was no sign of him :( only a swelling anemone on the roof of the gobies cave.

Trouble started last Christmas when my dad thought it would be a nice Christmas present if he went out to a lfs near him and bought an unknown snail, a shrimp , and piece of live rock with an 'interesting anemone'.
So not to dishearten him I put them in and researched like mad to figure out the unknowns.
I found that the snail was a Babylonian whelk, link to picture below

unfortunately I couldn’t find a thing on the anemone.
It is nocturnal, and seeks refuge under rocks. 1" wide can extend to about 1.5" in length. Its a browny greeny colour and has short, round tentacles.
It looks a bit like a majano (kind of like this pic below, but defo not identical.)

it hasn’t split since we've introduced it to the tank which is one of the reasons I don’t think it is a majano.

I would post a picture myself but in the despair of this morning, we decided to cut it off the rock and do an autopsy. I couldn’t find any trace of fish, but can they fully digest a 3" fish in 48hours?

We lost a baby damsel a month ago which at the time had made his home near the anemone.

We would love any thoughts of what might have happened to our goby.

    Many thanks

    Jon and Nikki

You would be shocked at the size of foods that anemones can eat. On top of that, add it a gobies natural predilection to rest on live rock, sand, corals, etc. I suspect your anemone had a good meal.

    Sorry for your loss. :(

The more i think about it the more it becomes clear that the anemone had a feast.

"Ishymishy77 You seriosly cut open the anemone?"

I didn’t want to, but we never see him until we move rocks about, so we really don’t know what he gets up to. We really loved our goby, and don't want to lose anymore, as we kinda blamed the anemone on the damsels sudden death as well.
He looked like the insides of a squid. but no fish bones.
our lfs just told us they can fully digest a fish in 24 hours and it being swelling is a good sign of it been full up.
