ok , i went threw charlie a cat 3 (altho i think it was 4)i mean i went through the eye of the storm , never boared my windows, was without power for 2 week had 20 gallons of gas for the genny, altho i did not have a fish tank at the time, it ran all the tv's, fans, ac and such for those 2 weeks and never had to fill them once again altho i regulated what was on at one time. i highly doubt you will see the damage i saw from charlie with sandy.
and with regards to the stations running out of gas yes it happened but within hours like 10hours the station near me was refilled.
and from what i can remember charlie was fun to tell the truth (cant really tell i was drinking when it hit lol.)

    but every storm is different

What? No, I don't know anything about them. lol
If you live on the gulf coast you learn what it's like to deal with them. Also, having gas within 10 hours is rare, No one should count on having gas for a few days. I will also point out Florida doesn't have as many trees, so the roads will be clear in half the time therefore allowing the pumps to be filled quicker.

lol, yeah, I go to NOLA 2 to 3 times a year and LOVE it. Whats odd is you guys are in the heart of oil imports and refineries yet get screwed during storms. seems ODD

What really screwed my state was the Oil Spill. Meaning The Moratorium, Louisiana isn't getting the revenue it needs to run and we are having to make extreme budget cuts to the Universities to stay afloat. Katrina has helped New Orleans in many ways, and I believe it has made for a better city. With hurricanes one of the big things that has harmed us is Insurance, it costs over 10k a year with a 40k deductible, it's just insane, No one can afford it.

WOW, thats BS to put it lightly, I just drove thru the lower 9th a month ago and its still needing ALOT of work although Brad Pitts houses down there are pretty cool. But to be honest, politics down there are a disaster, ALOT of corruption. When my boy gets a bit older, I plan to move near NOLA, I really love that city. My friend owns the Blue Nile, rated #1 jazz club last year. It was on Deadliest catch, treme, and like 4 movies recently. check it out, let me know and I'll have him show ya around and meet some great artists. planning on going down there in december hopefully

I never even thought of the tree factor, but that makes sense in a big way. My buddy live in Homestead Florida south of Miami. He said it was odd not to have power after more than a dt or two max, due to his close proximity to the nuclear plant.

I wasn't talking about the 9th ward, the 9th ward will never change. When I say Katrina has improved the city, I mean it has improved the culture and corruption. The Landruie family has done lots to hurt the state, Why do you think we don't have Disney World, it's because of them. Mayor Nagin was even worse though. We have more restaurants then before and there is a renewed vigor and attitude. LSU is expanding their Med school at the moment which will be great! People are great around here. My mom is from New Orleans East, she went to Dominican. New Orleans East used to be the happening neighborhood but, now it's mostly ghetto. The best Neighborhoods on the outside of New Orleans are River ridge and Old Metairie. In New Orleans culture, where you went to High school is everything. If your son will be in High School when you move, it would be best to send him to Holy Cross or Jesuit.

Trees and power lines usually block the roads pretty good. Also if it floods the water sometimes washes away the road and lifts large sections of the tarmac away.
