The Dark Lord's 2qt Pico Build (Update first post.)

EPISODE I

Well, Im going evil and going small. Nocturnal or insomniac's beware, I grew a goatee and as such will have my new evil masterpiece tank. I saw a kickstarter for a 1qt pico set up and said, well heck I have the perfect glass jar to do one up. Thanks to Zetlight I have a light for it. With my back out I can't finish my new 125g so here we go:


My plans are to build a closed loop for flow. The tank itself is a coconut oil jar so I think Ill get it wet tomorrow or the next day. Then I can use my trustee heat gun with some rigid airline tubing hooked to an aqualifter.

Since I have several other jar to play with in the future I might drill some for more flow, maybe a sump. Its about to get real.

EPISODE II

Late night again, as I helped Tom out with a voltage issue with his tank, he sent me home with his box of rack rubble. I have some E-Marco-400 for my 125 Deepwater build and decided this is the perfect time to test it out!

Fist, I drew the outside diameter of the 2qt jar, as well as the size of the opening on a piece of scratch paper. Then I pulled out the cooler more promising peices and began to play:



Once I found the shape I wanted, I broke out the mortar and mixed it up. First go was less than ok and I had to try again. since the mortar was too dry. The I hit gold, it worked great and I set it aside to dry. Today it is perfect here is the formation, all one peice, super porous:

looks like it will be a cool build! Small tanks are fun, are you going to use the aqualifter for circulation? Also, I've got a 5lb bag of sand i'm not using if ya want it!

 

I don't think an Aqualifter would work very well to circulate salt water...you are supposed to use their pre-filter with any water, which obviously will clog up quite fast with a SW tank. If you don't use it, I imagine the pump would have an early death.
