I think you probably know Craig from another board, but I just want to remind you that he really KNOWS his fish!!  Take a look at the list he's talking about, and make sure there's nothing on there you want.

    Great choices, beautiful fish.

Yes unfortunately as wrassman pointed out, the Thallassoma will eat snails and hermits as that is there natural diet. Welcome to the give and take of establishing a fish community!

Any of these wrasses will add color and fast swimming action to your tank. That's what you need to decide on.

instead of the wrasse, what if i added a flame angel? would that be ok? the list would be
    snowflake eel
    singapore angel
    purple tang
    marroon clown
    flame angel
and how about that black sailfin blenny wrassman told me about? this way i could have some cleaners and little inverts? what cleaners with this list? what manual work would i still have to do? thanks so much for being patient everyone!!

when i remove the damsels to the fish store (my girlfriend no longer wants them in her tank because they are so mean), can i add a fish to take their place? the tank should already be used to having the eel and the two damsels (all the levels are zero), so would the next fish be wise?

That list should be fine, add the blenny first, the other fish are a toss up with the two angels added last (flame angel before the singapore).  You will still need to do weekly maintenance depending on your tank.

You should be able to add one or two fish of the same size as your damsels without much of a spike.

cool, thanks a lot craig!!! will the marroon clown be too aggressive? i heard they could be mean...what cleaners should i add for algae and the sand bed? i added a brown hermit crab today. the LFS said that it would help keep the sand clean. i just added one for now, and so far the eel and the hermit get along. the hermit is too big for the eel to eat. what do you guys do for manual tank cleaning? just scrape the algae from the glass?

If you add your fish as juveniles they will generally grow up together and this can minimize squabbles.

I prefer Red Skunk Scarlet Cleaners as they will clean your fish of parasites, a great ich prevention program.

Empty the protein collection cup, clean powerheads occassionaly, rinse filter medium, use a credit card to scrape algae off the glass, and change water as necessary (5 - 10% per week).

good stuff. thanks again craig! what are red skunk scarlet cleaners? they're shrimp, right? won't the eel eat the shrimp?the clown should go in last then? dont the tang and angels need a well-established tank before i add them? so it'll be a while before i put in new fish huh? could the purple tang go in when i bring the damsels back today or tomorrow?

Scarlet Cleaners are shrimp, yes. Your eel is a candidate to possibly eat any of your tank inhabitants. If they are well fed they are less likely to dine on other critters in your tank, the shrimp included.

I would add these juvenile fish in this order, one per month:

    Clean-up Crew, snails, shrimp, etc.
    Lawnmower Blenny
    Maroon Clown
    Purple Tang
    Flame Angel
    Singapore Angel

This would give your tank time to mature a little before adding the tang and the angels. Make sure the tang and angels will eat flake or frozen mysis before you bring them home from the LFS.
