hi all. my LFS has my black sailfin blenny. i removed the damsels, and i will get the blenny tomorrow. what should i feed him? will he dig a lot? so far the eel has left my cleaners alone. he looked like he wanted to eat a blue-legged hermit, but he ended up deciding against it... if he is well fed and happy, is there any reason to ever expect him to eat one of my cleaners? particularly the expensive shrimp? ;-)

the black sailfin i wouldnt worry about it going after any snails, crabs, or shrimp they are strictly herbivores they eat alge out of the tank. it might take to any flakes or pellet containing spirulina alge, dried nori, of alge disc of some sort there not meat eaters at all

No guarantees but less likely if well fed.

    Hey all,

My Black Sailfin Blenny, Tater, will eat just about anything.  Of course he is especially fond of green stuff, but he will also eat brine, mysis, daphnia, and anything else that is small.  He won't chew on a large piece of fish or clam (like my Tang will).  But, he will scarf down his share of brine shrimp.

As far as your snails and hermits go, he won't bother them at all. He is a "reef-safe" fish, and he won't bother your corals or your shrimp, or your starfish. Tater is about 5" long now, and if he was going to bother anything like that, he would have already done so, don't you think??

well, when i removed the damsels, i got a 2 inch marroon clown, and a 3 inch black sailfin blenny. they both ate, and they look happy!!! my eel is kinda upset because i had to rearrange the tank to catch the damsel, but otherwise he is doing good also!!!
