hello again everyone. as a few of you may know, my initial reason for getting into this hobby was the lionfish. my LFS has a fu manchu lion that is really cool. with the fish list that i have planned, could i add the little lion? i was told they dont get any bigger than 5 inches max. what do you guys think? if i could safely add it with whats already in there, and what i plan to add, i would love to get it. but that all hinges on what you guys and gals say. also, i added a hawaiian feather duster today. it is really cool! what starfish or urchin could i safely add that will keep the sand stirred, but not knock over rocks or kill my fish or other inverts? thank you all again for everything!!!

    Roger,,,
You had asked earlier about putting the Purple Tang into your tank and I had responded to your post. I think that because your tank is only 2 moths old that it might be a risky expensive chance.
As Matt would say, Go Slow, young man...
I would wait at least 6 months so you wouldn't have that problem with, NEW TANK Syndrome

oh, i didnt mean that it would be an immediate purchase. i was just wondering if the fu manchu was compatible, and if it would be ok with my fish list. if i did get it, would i have to cut out one of the other desired fish? i am trying my best to go slow... i have kept my tank pretty empty thus far :) the tang and angels wont even be considered to put in until about 6-8 month mark.

A Fu Manchu should be OK with your other fish you've selected due to its diminutive size.

cool. should i cut one of the other fish to make room for the fu manchu, or would my tank be able to handle having just this one more? :)

[glow=red, 2, 300]Refresh my memory, what is your current in-tank livestock inventory and your current fish list without the lion.[/glow]

[glow=red, 2, 300]You should be good with seven fish in your 90 gallon as long as you go slow and test to make sure your parameters are in balance as you progress. I wouldn't add anything new until May and then no more than one fish per month thereafter. That would put you about September of 2003.[/glow]

The Fu Manchu is listed at 4" maximum captive length, while the Fuzzy Dwarf and Dwarf Zebra are listed at 7".  Your choice.  I like the Dwarf Zebra based on personal preference.

I would make sure that before you bring one of these guys home that you make sure they will eat frozen krill, cocktail shrimp, or other non-live food (protein).  It can be a real challenge to get them to eat anything but live food, which can be expensive and difficult to find.  Fresh water fish, gold fish and guppies, are tough on their livers as the Lion will accumulate fat.  This will lead to an early demise or less than optimal health.  Live saltwater silversides are a good live food source if you can get them.
