two questions here, I was thinking of buying the new evolution Korailas and putting them on a wavemaker. Anyone had experience with these pumps?

second, I am torn between 2 1050s or 2 1400s. Its going in a 55gal so 48" length, was looking on having LPS mostly but when the tank is ready moving to SPS possibly. Any thoughts? and I do have my return pump running about 700-800 gph

The evos work very well ona wave maker. early maade units had a little too much lubricant ona bushinga nd the pump would sometimes start in reverse. It's a zero dolalr fix, all you need to do is wipe the excess lube off the outside of the bushing, or do that and put a small dab of super glue on the outside of the bushing. Hydor has a new bushing available for free to those that have the originals with this minor issue. New units will have the new revised bushing in place, but it's pretty hard to tell if the unit is the original batch or the new ones at this point.

In any case, I am thinking about getting a couple to replace my normal korallias and a MJ mod or 2. I only need to get the korallia evos to mount to my sure grip 100 magnets as the korallia cannot attach itself through my nearly 1" thick sides and back of my tank. Those mj mods sure buzz and get out of balance easily.

You will probably want the 1050's in a 48" tank if you have very fine substrate.
I have two of the 1400's on a Reefkeeper Lite wavemaker function switching at 1 minute intervals and they are the first powerheads I have owned that actually disturb my 330 lbs of Southdown sand at the opposite end and corner of the tank. Pretty powerful and only 6 measured watts of power consumption using my Kill A Watt meter.

By my calculations if you get the 1050s you will have 50+ times circulation per hour in the tank. If you are going LPS and not running them on a wavemaker your LPS may not make it unless you put them in lower flow areas. On the wavemaker you will be OK.

Sweet! thanx guys. I was going to go with finer sand, and by my calculation the 1050 would work, but I just threw that question in there cause I was already asking one on the pumps.

super stoked I am about to get water in the tank!!!! ;D;D;D;D;D
