With the LFS I have here I'd almost.........almost be happy to at least have a Deathco, least I could buy salt without driving an hour or paying shipping.

check out Pet Supplies, Dog Supplies, Cat Supplies, Pet Meds & Pet Products: Drs. Foster & Smith Pet Supplies, I think you'll find their salt cheaper then deathco, or any other place, and they charge shipping by price, not weight. So up to $100 is $9.99 shipping for ground.

I dont suggest supporting deathco in any way, shape or form. You buy dog food their, you're supporting them. You try to rescue a fish, you're supporting them.

the petco near me is actually really nice. The fish guy their is a guy with 2k posts on RC and has a 75gal SPS tank. he used to buy broken oddysea fixtures, rebuild them with new ballasts and whatnot, and sell them to people he knew thru RC. havent been there for 3-4 months and feel like going to talk to him for a while :-/ we usually talk for about 3-4 hours and give advice to people who want to set up tank or by fish. he always gives great advice and even has an order put in for 2 70w watt vipep clamp ons. mainly so he can get corals in the tanks. cause they use NO fluourescents and the manager who works their keeps on putting in orders for corals when she cant even keep em' herself.

I believe that any store can be great or one of the worst stores to shop at, not to mention the effect and detrimental consequences presented to the livestock!!
Proper initial collection and shipping procedures, quarantine and acclimation processes, proper equipment, dedicated, knowledgeable and conscientious trained employees are what makes any store successful or not, in my opinion!
Yes, based on the disasterous past historical track record of Petco stores, it seems that some Petco stores have neglected to admit and incorporate these key concepts into the equation for longterm success of their fish inventory especially.
However, having said this, I am sure that each and every one of us has witnessed and experienced, at one time or another, another pet shop that was lacking in one or more of these components!!!!
I know that I have seen some top flight pet shops and other that were clueless and that makes me upset as so many living animals, dependent on us for their survival, were fighting for their last minutes here on this earth.
Personally, any store could be successful, IF those key areas that I addressed above were adhered to! These may not be the only variables, but with these main ones incorporated, even a Petco store could benefit and be successful, not to mention the livestock that they house in their tanks looking for a way out!
Caring, pride and knowledge go along way in ensuring positive results!

Fortunately we, here in the State of Connecticut, have an abundance of good saltwater pet shops!

I have had success in the past with purchasing fish at PETCO, though their selection is often nothing to write home about!

although i have to agree that things are bad a deathco, this post and i see these posts all over the internet do nothing but give them free exposure.even if its bad, people will before curious and go there to see what all the talks about.why not start a post to list and talk about all the good stores all over.it would be a much happier subject and more helpfull than bashing a store that everyone all knows about.get all those good stores noticed.
