I finally got my magnesium test kit...

It shows my mag levels are between 1470 and 1500

Now, can someone explain to me what this means? What to do if it raises or drops? Any other facts along with it.

My water parameters are as follows:

    Temp. 79
    salinity 1.026
    pH 8.3
    no3, no4, phosphates 0ppm
    ammonia 0
    kh 10

I have a yellow tang, 2 clowns, yellow head goby, blue hippo, cleaner shrimp, flame angel, 6-line wrasse, flower pot coral all in my 72 gallon tank running for about 4 months with 90lbs live rock, 2.5 inches of sand.

    Thanks for your help!
    Ryan

    calcium is about 420-450...
it's tough with the test kit because the color change isn't always complete and needs one more drop!

I'd say Keep up the good work everything is inline, just where it should be!:)

if your Mg drops then you have something in you tank consuming it like coralline, which is good. Mg, Ca and X(X=the thing I forget)oh someone help me out here. there's one more thing I can't think of but they all work together and usually if you can't get your Ca up it's because your Mg and the other thing is low........sorry so cryptic It's late and I can't think right now lol I'm sure someone else will chime in, but if you search Magnesium on 3reef you will find TONS of info

Well that issue has been a sour one on this forum...
    a majority say it's not enough ...
Current USA sundial t5's with 216watts...

However, my LFS and marinedepot.com technical support all say the anemone can be supported with the t5's which run much more efficiently in my 72 gallon set up.

you can try and if you see it's not happy, then maybe increase your wattage.(MH more t5's, pc's...etc....)

As far is your mg. goes 1450 to 1500ppm sounds ideal to me, if it goes up over 1600ppm no biggie but try bringing it down and if it goes below 1280ppm try to bring up asap before the rest of your parameters get out of whack..with water changes, tech-m or powder magnesium.
