The motion of my "ocean"

Major change in my water motion techniques today. I picked up 3 PH's and a used Wavemaker Pro for my Nano cube. Immidiate results as every little bit of debris that has collected in the dead spots over the last 8 months has been lifted into the column and filtered out. My rose BTA is on the move for his new home in the new currents. Anyone use this one or used it before? After some hesitation im gonna see how big time currents help my anemones as i have 6 in the cube. I gues its more of a anemone tank than a traditional reef.

 

Anemones are my favorite...what is the secret to keeping them?

I had gotten one early on....and it croaked. :'( :-/

Now I have had my system up for about four months now. Is that part of the secret...a seasoned tank?

 

high quality light and water in very very consistant doses in a matured system. There many tricks to keeping different species, EG....BTA's get ridiculously huge with what most would call overkill current and lighting....especially the roses. Most have specific needs that are just recently being understood fully (o at least the secrets are leaking). Its all in experimentation....IMO. Thats what fuels this hobby.

There are people in this hobby who advocate NOT keeping anemone. Their arguments are pretty compelling. One of the tings I read was a survey where they found that noone with less than two years experience in the hobby had kept an anemone more than 12 months. Dead in less than a year. It was not untli the hobby experience curve went beyone 5 years befor people were able to keep them for two years. I don't believe they had more than a couple of old timmers with 15+ years of experience who had been able to keep an anemone more than 5 years. That and the real possibility that the one that you are buying could be more than 100 years old might cause one to contemplate keeping anemone.

That doesn't mean I won't have one, but it is a thought provoking read.

Yes, that is interesting. I do have fellow near here who is propagating rose bta's , so I would probably stick with that....but I hear what you are saying. While keeping some animals, we can extend their life expectancy, there is very little chance of that with anemones.

I agree in a way, anemones should not be attempted by the uncertain or undedicated. Ive found it harder to keep anemonies than the SPS's and such. Also about anemone age...completley irrelevent they can theoretically live indefinatley. a guy in my Marine bio course did a quick essay on one that has been documented in the PI's for over 200 years.
