Hey whats going on? My name is Eric and I'm new to the salt water thing. I messed around with fresh water for a couple years, but now I'm bored. A little info about what i have now. I have a new 60 g. tall tank, eshopps model 100 sump. Building a stand as we speak. So bascally i need a protein skimmer, lighting, water pump, live sand, live rock, water, salt. you get the idea.

I came to this forum to learn about salt water tanks and the best products you guys suggest. So get ready for alot of questions.

    Thanks alot,
    Eric

Hey Eric! Welcome to 3reef! You'll never get bored with a salt water tank, I can assure you of that! Always something new to learn! Go for a AquaC Remora skimmer, you'll see they come highly recommended here. Lighting...depends on what you want to keep. Get ready to take your time at this too! Also, I'd get a few pcs of live rock with a lot of coralline on it and get base rock for the rest. Save ya some $$ in the long run. I've had crushed coral/sand mix substrate on my 55 but in the 135 I just set up I put oolite sand in, I like it a whole lot more!

Well I plan on having a coral reef, with some basic non eating coral fish.

Know what kinds of corals? Softs, and LPS can be easily kept with T5 lighting Personally I reccomend the Tek series from sunlight supply.
Metal Halides are pretty much needed for SPS and Clams though in the right tank and right positioning they can be kept under T5's as well.

I have no idea what kind corals. All i know that they really bring a salt water tank together as a community with the fish. And they look sweet as heck.
