The life span will be reduced without active cooling. UVL T5V-HO bulbs can be used in the fixture also.

Thank you for your interest, but let me clarify a few things.

These lamps are different than any other lamp on the market. If you hold one you can tell instantly these lamps are very different, they weight noticeably more than an HO lamp.

The cooling in this fixture works incredibly well for these lamps. They do have a target temperature just like an HO lamp, and this fixture (in an average environment) runs cool enough for long life. Believe it or not, the fixture runs very cool. Even after hours of use it is warm to the touch, not hot. The drop down protective lens protects the lamps and reflectors, while letting all of hot air to rise through the fixture.

UVL T5V-HO lamps are not the same and cannot be used. Variable high output is not the same as VERY high output. Any other lamp current available on the market will not even fit into the tombstone end caps on this fixture. The end caps have changed to prevent just this type of mix up, as the ballast will drive HO or Variable HO lamps so hard they likely would not last longer than a few days or weeks.

This fixture is crazy bright, If anyone is going to be at Seamax be sure and drop by our booth and have a look, it will convince you in very short order, this is not like any other T5 fixture available on the market today! If not, see you at MACNA!
