You may or may not. I haven't heard of ppl switching pellets yet, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I did not experience a cloudy bloom after I started running WM Ecobak.

One scenario that I'd consider is that different types of bacteria will consume the WM pellet than the NP pellet. If this is the case, then you may experience some die-off of the old bacteria, which could release nutrients into your water if not skimmed out.

What I would suggest to be safe is slowly lower the amount of NP pellets you are using while slowly raising the amount of WM Ecobak.

Hope this works, let us know!

    Hi Jon,

i am a user of your competition and im thinking of switching to ecobac(price, better review). is it possible to mix ecobak with others to make a smoothe transition or must I replace completely and start fresh?

    Thanks,

    Ben

excellent... I like to hear that. Now remember, feel free to feed the tank to keep those LPS happy. The ecoBAK will work hard to keep the nutrients down... so feed away!

oh no worries about me feeding... i have anthias i feed nice variety of frozen foods 3 times a day. thats what got me in trouble with nitrates. once i seen nitrates dropping, i started to add a coral food... fuel, by seachem. everything is looking very happy. ive tried other avenues , carbon dosing, i can say they did work. but they where daily dosing things. this is easy ...set it up and let it work for you. And it works!!!!! better than any other thing i have tried to lower my nitrates.

    Joe,
I am one of Bill from TN's converts. About three weeks ago I got a better reactor for my ecobak. I have been running pellets for about 6 months and the tank is 1.5 yrs old. I got a bloom that is in day 4 with no change. I have no polyp extention in most of my corals. It is the most pronounces on the long polyped ones like ORA birdsnest. I am wondering what to do other than wait it out? I have already increased flow near the surface and added an old skimmer pump to the sump to increase O2 in the water.

I am SPS dominate and have 2l pellets with 550g water vol. My params are as follows
    Temp 77.5
    SG 1025
    DkH 9
    Ca 400
    nitrate 0 (salifert)
PO4 16ppb (checker) before bloom started
Zero algea on glass.....just cloudy water and white snot:)

    thank you,
    -bart

I'm starting to see cyano. Running 1500ml EcoBak on 350 gal total system. GFO and Carbon. Been running the pellets about 8 wks now. Also dosing mb7 and Special Blend both at 1/2 strength.

    Po4 @.03 hanna

Should I stop pellets or gfo or what?

    TIA

I'd ease off of the MB7. I used to dose it, and caused Cyano. I know of others who have had the same experience. Slowly ween your system off over the course of a couple of weeks. Try to manually remove the Cyano daily if you can.

    Hello,

So you ran the pellets for 6 months... and recently switched reactors and now are seeing a new bloom? How much water flow?

Cyano is usually an imbalance related to strains of bacteria, not specifically Carbon dosing. Dose Special blend at the rec'd dosage. Also you can try removing the GFO and see if ecoBAK will maintain PO4 levels.
