Jon, FWIW, I figured out a way to directly inject all of the discharge from teh pellet reactor into my skimmer body. it enters just after the Beckett injector into the main housing where teh turbulence picks it up. I think this may help me a bit. just need to get a little more GPH thru the pellets now.

hi john, i have a question about my system. i am running a 125gal mixed reef that has been setup up for about 12 weeks. i have been running 500ml of ecoback in a smr-1 reactor with a 350ghp pump since i started up the tank. for the first 8 weeks i dosed mb7 weekly but none since then. i would say my tank has a medium bio load with 8 fish and 20 corals. i feed once a day. mostly pellets and flake food. i did increase feeding some, tangs were looking thin.

i didnt use any gfo for the first 8 weeks. after some testing i noticed nitrate and phos increasing. no3-5ppm- phos .03 and rising. i decided to add some gfo in a brs reactor. after about 2 weeks a retested phos and noticed .06 yesterday. i didnt test no3. also at about week 8 i started up the refugium with cheato and tang heaven, lights on 24/7.

    i think i have 2 choices.
    1) add more bio-pellets, or possibly slow down reactor flow.
    2) add more gfo.im running 8tbsp brs high cap gfo(they recommend 13tbsp)

    do u have any advice?

Comparing my skimmate since running Ecobak, the skimate is a lot clearer than before. Is this typical? Yes, the collection cup fills a lot faster as expected.

mine is fairly clear and very stinky with a green tint.

to be honest i think i need a bigger skimmer. mine is rated for 250 but if i turn it up any more it fills up 1/2 way in a day.

I am not john but I know for a fact that you might want to increase the gov in your reactor. I have the same reactor and I'm running mine around 700 gph and my nitrates have went down.

This is just me but the more tumble, but not to crazy, gives the bacteria more room. The slower the tumble the pellets slowly clump and take away from the surface. Its how it was explained to me.

I don't recommend high flow rates with ecoBAK for 90% of the users.

The only exception is for systems with VERY LOW nutrients where you are attempting to scavenge nutrients to VERY VERY LOW numbers.
