yes u should be running a skimmer. the outlet of the pellets should be close to the intake of the skimmer.

You should be able to read it in about 10minutes... Just skim over the questions and then read Jon's response.. I have no intention of using pellets and still read it twice lol.. If I ever do, I will use Ecoback, if for no other reason than this thread. The fact that Jon is here answering questions as readily as he has is a HUGE value to the product.

@Jon Warner - Bravo for your dedication to your products, it speaks volumes about your company

Exactly how I feel. That's worth its weight in gold.

I don't believe that ecobak can't be run without a skimmer. I'm interested to hear jons response.

You have to have a skimmer to capitalize on any form of carbon dosing (this isn't dosing, because it doesn't actually enter the water column, but the end result is nearly the same). The bacteria that grows has to have a way to export to provide any benefit. You want the affluent from the reactor to dump as close to the intake of the skimmer as possible.

yes you really do need a skimmer. You need to export the waste product produced by the bacteria consuming ecoBAK or you won't see the nutrients drop.

Just wanted to pass on an update. I borrowed our Club's Hannah Meter for the alk and Phosphate. My alk was pretty darn accurate to my salifert. my Phosphate was at .05ppm meaning I had Way too much phosphate in the tank. put a small ammt of GFO in a reactor online for a little to pull it down.

also, I think I forgot to mention earlier in my questions that I was running a UV sterilizer on the tank. this could have had an impact on the bacterial imbalance I had in the tank. while a small 18 watt unit, this could have lead to some of the cyano issues.

Just wanted to share that I just got some Microbe-Lift Special Blend last night and dosed the required amount for the first dose. While they do mention on the bottle that there is a sulphur smell, I had no idea that the whole house would smell like a backed up sewage system! Good Gracious Almighty! My gf said I could never use it again. hahahahaha!

And the irony is that it says it will remove odors from the tank too. :)
