Another interesting fact... the bio-polymer contained in ecoBAK ULNS Pellets is produced with a low temperature water extraction method. Competing products are produced using a Solvent based extraction method. For this reason, the bio-polymer in ecoBAK is pending FDA approval while the competing brands main ingredient can't be certified by the FDA.

People wonder why ecoBAK reviews are so much better than the reviews of the other brands...

    Hello,

You should use about 600ml of ecoBAK, you want to start off with 1/4 that amount and add another 1/4 each week until you're up to 600ml. Always remember to run a low flow for a gentle tumble in a reactor. The TLF reactor should be ok just make sure you have a gentle tumble NOT a high flow rapid tumble.

So after using EcoBak for almost a year and a half, I am suddenly seeing my phospahates slowly creep up to numbers that I don't like. I still have undetectable nitrates, but my phos readings have gone from 0.03-0.06 on average to as high as 0.27 on a hanna checker.

This is what I have done so far. Cleaned all detritus out of my sump. Feeding less frozen foods. but still feeding fairly heavy with pellets. I have added more Ecobak pellets, but have not increased the tumble rate. I am currently considering adding GFO to get it back down.

I am wondering if there is any other suggestions to get these numbers back down to where they should be?

this is the time to increase the flow and tumble rate for scavenging the low nutrients present. In addition, remember the bacteria that remove PO4 also need some NO3...

start with increased flow, you already topped off pellets so let me know how it looks in a couple weeks.

not easily... but there was a discussion on RC about precisely that. Definitely advanced reefkeeping lol... but it can be done. It just means that you're adding PO4 much faster than the system accumulates NO3.

I know, I never thought that adding Nitrates would be the problem. hahahaha

I have added some more pellets like I said, and will definitely be testing in the next 4-5 days to see how it's going. I'll post here when I do.

    Thanks Jon

I would just get some p04x4, that new gfo stuff that is so awesome. It'll drag that po4 out real quick.

Will it? There seems to be some serious speculation to their claims. Based on what I have read, It may not work any better than regular GFO in the real world. Their claims may be true yet also a play on words.
