    ok...

that output flow looks terrible. I recommend about 100gph ACTUAL flow through a liter of pellets. That output tube doesn't look like it could fill a gallon jug in less than 40 seconds.

The rate of tumble looks good. But you appear to have a buildup of "something" inside the reactor because the flow is so slow THROUGH the reactor.

So turn the flow rate UP a bit every day for a week until you have normal flow.

Just an example of a successful setup... many people run a maxijet 1200 wide open into 1 liter of pellets and it works great.

the problem is i cant improve the rate of flow from the sump to the reactor...i even tried presurizing it... i thiknk i am goign to take the reactor offline..dump the media into my reefoctopus reactor and churn it back up...

i assume as long as the media is wet the bacteria wont die off?

yeh thats correct... but remember don't tumble too fast! And as long as you have it out of the reactor rinse it in some tank water. BTW the SRO reactor is excellent.

Hey i have been following this thread and it convinced me to start running Ecobak in my tank. I did a lot of looking around to see if it was right for me and i decided it was worth a shot. Is there a good way to tell that the bacteria has formed and is starting to populate on the pellets? I started running them on August 2 and have had them running since with out any issues as far a clumping or anything.

Thanks for trying the ecoBAK, you won't be disappointed. The best way to monitor the effect of the ecoBAK is to test the NO3 and PO4 after 4-6 weeks. Your numbers will be heading DOWN...

Many people also note visual benefits during usage including clearer water, less algae growth on the glass and additional polyp extension on SPS corals.

Well I would love for the polyps to extend more then they do. Mine seem to only extend out 3/4 of the way and I have had them for years. One more question.....will fluctuations in say PH or alk cause any issues with the bacteria that forms on the pellets?

the pH and alkalinity fluctuations we see in our systems on a day to day basis don't affect ecoBAK. On a related issue.. many hobbyists recommend running Alk at 8dKH.

    Hey John,

Wanted to let you know I had decided to run EcoBak pellets as a direct result of this thread and research on other brands. I started running the pellets from day one when my tank was born on 21 July. It's now 31 Aug, and I'm finally starting to see some serious skimmate production, so I'm assuming the pellets have kicked in (exactly on schedule, 5 weeks, i might add!). Haven't tested nitrates in a few days, but that will come tonight.

Q: As the pellets kick in, does their tumbling rate slow down for the same flow rate as before? I'm running 250ml with a MJ1100 utility pump in a modded BRS reactor, and while I had to dial it back a little before, I'm now running wide open to maintain a gentle-moderate tumble. Any risk of clumping?
