    ok, title slightly misleading.

I have been out of the game for about 1.5 years, due to getting married and buying a new house. new house electricaly could not support my tanks so "gave most of my life back to my LFS" the rest died :(

Ok, saying that, I still own everything and now I am going to get things going again. I have 120 24x24x48 and a 60 gal hex.

    The reason for this thread.
I had my 120 up for about 1.5 years and loved it but was at the point where chemistry was starting to kick my butt. 60 gal barely up 4 months so no love there and it will be next.

Ok, I have not left this forum but not a big poster but have learned a lot while tank has been down, reading, and reading and then after that read some more.

I want Opinions... hee hee and Arguments! :)

    Ok here are the rules
    1. gotta use my tank, 24x24x48, all glass, dual over flows with the quiet pipes.
    2. sump/refuge, stock all glass 40 gallon
    3. stand will be 36"-40" tall (30" stands are for short people :) ) everything must fit in the stand.
    4. Insane lighting actually going to down size this a little, had overkill before. current lighting for tank (2 400w MH, 1 250w MH, 4 96w PC, 4 led moons)

The Game... I want everything I need! What am I missing? Reef Tank!

Here is what I will have for sure.
    40 gallon sump/refug.
    DIY Denitrater
DIY kalk Reactor w/auto top off
    DIY Calc Reactor
    DIY Skimmer

    Considering.
    phos reactor
    carbon reactor
    UV filter

Please feel free to let me know what you think would be a great set up, let me know if I am missing something. Also would love comments on the items I am considering.

if you calc reactor works well you shouldn't need kalkwasser

making a great skimmer may be tricky, it may just be easier to buy one(the pumps the most important thing anyway).

a phosphate reactor would be nice to have,
i don't view the carbon as necessary or the uv filter if you quaretine your new livestock first.

Hey - I like what you have in mind.

The lighting....are you planning on keeping fish or cooking them? lol man, that's a lot of light !

I'd run the carbon for sure. I like to use a refugium with a skimmer after it - I use an air pump that tunnels through an Ozinator and the water returns over carbon. I prefer this over UV, personal opinion of course.

Glad to hear you are getting back into your passion ! keep us updated with pics as you go !!

Thanks, for the info. although I am about to google it, what is an "Ozinator?" Little Ozzy doll with a ray gun...lol

Also, yeah I know the lighting is overkill working on fixing that. as well as the skimmer still have my old one but been reading DIY stuff for the last year, it is a must try :)

ozone reactor. i think they were popular before skimmers. some use them but there are disadvantages with the advantages(like less effective skimming, whether its because the water is cleaner or not i don't know.) make sure you look them up. nobody where i live really use them(well most of that is because the owners lfs's system styles don't incorparate them instead focus on skimming, and most people go to them for advice(which luckily is very good advice most of the time, with a very minimal sales pitch).)

for a full detailing about it http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-05/rhf/index.php (btw that part 3 i linked to it since it has links to all the parts.)
