I'm in the middle of setting up my 110 gallon FOWLR tank and it got me thinking. It's leak test day and my nerves are on end. What is everyones idea of the perfect tank setup? Size, livestock, sump, refugium, location? Just curious and thought it might be fun to see new ideas.;D

But in reality, anything larger than a 120 gallon would be idea. for me. We have a 180 gallon sps dominated tank now with all of the "bells and whistles" one could ask for and if it wasn't for the damn bryopsis, I'd be 100% happy with keeping only that one tank.

I left Long Island (Farmingdale) about the same time you did but the area around the aquarium is really nice and touristy nowadays :D

    To answer your question:

    Within reason:
    90-120 gallon tank

    Outside of budget:
    200-500 gallon tank

Whatto put in it? Well coral for sure and a mix of reefsafe fish and inverts.

I'm in East Hampton and the reef tank at Atlantis is amazing! The entire aquarium is top knotch. The curator for the reef tank brings fish and frags down to the reef tank in Georgia. It's 20,000 gallons, the largest self contained reef in the western hemisphere.

Hello jbaker, just for the very, very beginning.....a perfect set up (which many an aquarist has forgotten, to their dismay) is make sure it is level (using pads on carpet to minimize shifting) and make sure floor will support all the weight (bracing underneath the floor where necessary).

48x24x24. 120 gallon. SPS dominated with tangs and a mated black and white clown pair. Penninsula setup so you can view 3 sides. Seperate fish room for the sump, fuge, wetdry, skimmer, rodi & the whole works. One day....;D
