I like Dufresne's thinking :D The whole time I'm sitting here thinking "golly...think of all the mantis shrimp you could find in that stash...that rock looks like giant swiss cheese..." :D

He might have thought that harvesting liverock would be a good way to make an easy(easier) buck. He dove right on in, and didn't exactly think things through very well, it seems like. Rock may be rock, but when said rock is worth over a million dollars, I would probably have a little more security or something that gives me peace of mind with my aquafarm.

Maybe he has a lesson learned and may try again. With a captain's license...there are so many other companies you can open in florida. A diving vessel I went on was top notch, even sponsered by Garmin. All they did was buy an old 65ft sailboat, give it a generator, a diesel engine, and install a kitchen and cabins, as well as a diving gear area. And ta-daa, they can take you diving anywhere between Miami and the Bahamas.

Requiring yet more investment when the current company is realistically going belly up.

While I do agree that perhaps a bit more attention should have been paid, I think saying he is loosing his lively hood is pretty damn accurate. Under best case scenario he is going to have to give up the current(future?) income and go back to another career.

True that. A career change is definitely needed. I still don't see why someone would like to become an aquafarmer to begin with :D

Meh, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to be happy. I tried the hobby-as-career game once and ended up hating both.
