So I attended my 1st convention yesterday in regards to this hobby,. The SEASL 09. I wasn’t sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by all the nice. What I mean by that is everyone was really very friendly. From the staff to the dozen or so vendors, everyone was especially helpful. The two guest speakers Dr Mac and Mr. Dwayne Lowry were well worth the admission as they both were VERY informative. The lunch of burgers and dogs hit the spot as well. The coral/bingo game was just as cool and we actually WON! Woot! I came home with 4 new coral additions. ;D

So overall Id give this experience an A+ for my 1st “frag show” I’ll be looking forward to the next one. Thanks for the fun! ( and thanks inwall75 for the info! )

Hey I was there also! It was nice. You were the one that kept winning at Bingo! NO FAR!!! LOL

You were not the one that won the 2 of the 3 grand prizes...cause if you did then you need to share with you locals on this board! LOL

It was nice. Spent a little more then I thought...but got a very very sweet pink and white acan colony!

hehe nah, I wasnt the grand prize winner of anything. I won one of the 2ndary corals. totally good enough though. Im lookin at him now - Id say about 10 polyps on him.

I think the coolest thing about the whole deal were seeing corals I havent seen at my lfs that were within my budget. that rocked.

yeah...you can definately get some great deals there. This was my second official fragswap...each time I go I walk away with more stuff then I planned on. But like you said there is generally so much more then you can find in your LFS at these swaps...and if you did find it, you (I) normally cant afford it!

Plus I like to buy from other hobbiest...we are all in this together and I like to try to support other hobbiest. Hoping one day by the end of summer I will have my frag tank up to sell....supplement my hobby habit!

The conferences are also really good. It was interesting to see Dr. Mac tell about how he maricultures his corals. And the chemistry helped me better understand what is going on in my tank

Check out SLASH also. That is the club I am actually a member of myself. I go to both organization events...lots of info in St. Louis!

Anyway here is a pic of the acan that I bought...it looks much better then it does in the picture. It is bright bright pink...almost flurescent. I know that it will change colors in my tank as my lighting is different then what they had it under but it is definately a color I have never seen before!

I also bought some other cheap frags...
this is supposed to be LA Lakers monti...not sure if that is what it is really...color still hasnt really come out all the way yet

and then I bought a frag of Green Bay Packer Zoos (again not sure of the name but the colors are good) have 3 different colors in the polyps...a darker yellow center, a green ring then another yellow ring surrounded by the green edges
