Very nice! What are the dimensions? Also, Im not an experienced electrician at all, but I thought that you couldn't wire pumps to dimmer switches.....something to do with going from AC to DC I think? I could be way off, but you might want to look into that.......

the dimensions are 48x18x17, i though about that to with the electricity...i figured if you can to it to a light and a fan, why not a powerhead(underwater fan):). They work fine although I havent ran them very long because they were out of the water....hope to be filling the tank up within the next hour and will let you know how they do....NEED TO GET THIS TANK CYCLING :D

I to would be cautious about a dimmer switch.

My question for you is WHY mod it if you are just going to dial it down with a dimmer switch isnt that counter productive?

well i modded them for higher flow but i also wanted to be able to turn them down but not completely off, such as when im feeding them or doing water changes. im currently running them full speed at the moment, which is where i will keep them 99% of the time.

tank is filled and the cycle has begun ;)

The dimmer switches will work to an extent. It's in essence, restricting power to the powerhead. As you twist the switch i believe it creates more resistance, which lowers the powerhead speed. A controller actually controls the Alternating Current (AC) as it flows through the Direct Current (DC) powerhead (which is why only certain powerheads can be used on a controller). If your powerhead is AC then you cannot use them on a controller.

EDIT: Or is this the wavemaker explanation??? I think it's the wave-maker one. Yeah, if you dim it too far the magnet drive wont turn fast enough to run the prop.
