The start on a new reef tank

some of it was before thanks its just kinda thrown in there but I think it looks natural the way it is. it does need more but i am not going to rush that gana let it mature for a bit..

 

I'm was just jealous ! I thought this was a first start up ....as in brand new everything and you have coraline , corals the works !! and the room....talk about a play room !!

 

well ok yes that reef tank and all in it is a brand new setup.. some of the oter stuff is a older.

 

also here is a rundown on the tank ..

168 gallon Glass tank
(duel overflow custom built w/1" bottom and the rest 1/2")
40 gallon sump (custom built w/3/4" bottom and the rest 1/2")
500 lbs of Fiji Premium live rock (300 in tank and 200 in sump)
2300 gpm return pump
ASM-3 skimmer
current fixture with 3 250W MH and 24 led moon lights

I'd say you defied all the knowns regarding SW start up .... to get your chemistry up and running that fast and looking that nice is a feat all in itself !! I bet the LR was a huge factor in the cycling process !!! have you even had an algae bloom at all ??

Like I said just jealous!!

 

not even a refugium ? and 200 lbs LR in a 40 gal tank ??

 

nope no fuge i was planning on it but it just didnt work out with space.. and yes it is packed full

 

i dont follow many of the knows I go with what works for me .. I have been doing salt for many years but was out of it for a while then got back into it.. yes there has been a nasty brown bloom about a week after i set it up but now its under control.. hell I even use tap water.. lol
